Founders Message

Dear Friends,

It feels like only recently The Wings of Hope Children’s Charity was set up – spawning from a friendly kitchen table discussion about the plight of children’s education!

Our passion to help poor and needy children came from our parents who would always be willing to give their time to help the less fortunate children in the neighbourhoods in Mumbai where we grew up. My father (Rajni’s) a Civil Engineer by profession would always spend his time teaching Maths and English to these children. Our mothers continue to channel their energies in giving food, clothing and support to the poor and needy.

‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life’

Providing education to poor children is indeed an important way to get them and their families out of the debt trap. That is why we decided that the best way to help, was to provide education, free of cost, to those who have the least access to it.

The charity has seen many transformations year-on-year and it is fantastic to see so many different people getting involved – from corporate organisations, to students in the UK, from members of the public to those in the public eye. We cannot quite imagine how much has been achieved in such a short span of time.

We are very proud today that so many UK students are taking part in the Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA) and their hard work not only rewards them but makes such a significant difference to other children in the countries that the charity supports.Our sincere thanks go to the parents and teachers of these students, without whom we would not have been able to go ahead with the launch of our new school building in Pondicherry, India.

We also wish to thanks the Founder Patrons Lord and Lady Dholakia for their continuous support.

Our projects in Malawi and India would not be in existence if it was not for the invaluable time and effort put by our volunteers on the ground.

Further, a big “thank you” must go to our friends, donors and last but not least, the Student Team – who give their time voluntarily to inspire students to embark upon the WOHAA challenge.

The work that we do is very challenging, and requires continued support. You can help.

We thank you in advance for your support – in time, in money, in guidance, energy, and inspiration.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Rajni Sriram FRSA & Dr. R Sri Ram FRSA
